Funding criteria for New Zealand charities

  • Organisation must be a registered charity with IRD Section KC5, Section 56A or LD1-5 status providing a rebate for the donor, and receive minimal Government funding. As we are bound by the requirements of the USA Department of Internal Revenue, we are unable to process your request without confirmation that you hold donee status. Website printouts are not accepted. If you are uncertain of your organisation's status in this regard, or cannot locate your IRD letter, your authorised representative should contact Inland Revenue on 0800 227 774. Inland Revenue issued a staff instruction on May 26, 2010 to deal with these situations. A copy of your Charities Commission registration certificate or information from their website will not be accepted.

  • Grants from Newman’s Own Foundation must be spent on a New Zealand project which should commence the year following any application.

  • Grants from Newman’s Own Foundation will not be given to cover building appeals, operating expenses (including salaries, rent, outgoings.) Exclusions include: Sporting bodies or youth clubs (unless for disadvantaged or handicapped), individual or personal requests, multi-year grants requiring recurring budget expenditure, international travel or individual travel/study grants.

  • Applications are via an Expression of Interest and are not accepted outside the dates designated on this site. Timing of funding rounds and capped amounts may vary. Expressions of Interest must come from fully registered charities and not via other fundraising organisations such as Service Clubs or groups which raise funds to pass on to another institution. Each April possible funding opportunities will be announced on this site, so please check back early April for details of how to submit an Expression of Interest.

  • The payment of Grants is conditional upon the monies being used solely for the purpose specified in the application and reports on the use of funds are required.

  • You are requested not to add us to your mailing lists for newsletters, fundraising appeal letters, invitations to functions and AGMs, Annual Reports or Financial Statements.
